Midthunder is born in New Shiprock Mexico and is of the Fort Peck Assiniboine Tribe. Her mother worked as a castor and she attended the Academy for Technology and the Classics in Santa Fe. She was born in the Navajo Nation, in Shiprock. Amber has been identified as Native American on her father's side. Both are an enrolled member of the Fort Peck Sioux Tribe. Amber's mother was adopted which means that Amber has no idea of her ancestral lineage.
